The new Monklands Hospital at Wester Moffat is set to have an increased number of beds and doubled car parking capacity
New details have been revealed of the proposed replacement Monklands Hospital through the official planning application submitted to North Lanarkshire Council.
The free download features the latest breaking news and exclusive stories, and allows you to customise your page to the sections that matter most to you.The finalised application consists of 230 different documents, including an environmental impact assessment, elevations and design images of each part of the building, plus an 88-page planning statement with detailed information on the proposals.
The building incorporates a large ground floor housing the emergency, outpatient, radiology, cancer care, radiotherapy and elderly care departments; and wards will be located in a distinctive crescent of linked four-storey buildings designed to be “reminiscent of a tenemental form”. Connectivity, parking and roads were identified as the highest-importance themes by respondents to the pre-application public consultation; and the 2100-space car park will include a three-deck multi-storey with curved ramps, plus accessible spaces and electric vehicle charging points.
The planning statement notes: “This application represents a significant next step towards the realisation of the project vision – to provide a hospital fit for future challenges, using modern digital technology to deliver a hospital of clinical, operational and building excellence.”
