Four iconic red phone boxes across Lanarkshire are being made available for community groups to adopt and repurpose for just £1.

Redundant phone boxes have been transformed to house lifesaving equipment and to become book exchanges, cake shops and tiny museums; with more than 500 in Scotland and 7200 across the UK being taken on by community organisations since BT launched the £1 initiative 15 years ago. BT head of street Michael Smy said: “We’ve seen some great kiosk conversions across the UK that have become valuable assets; communities that would like to retain theirs [can] take it on for just £1.
