Developer Addresses Flooding Concerns at New Nottinghamshire Housing Development

Peveril Homes responds to social media posts showing flooding near the Hempsill Croft development in Nuthall, Nottinghamshire, attributing the issue to broken pipework and assuring residents and prospective buyers that the problem is being addressed. The developer emphasizes their commitment to mitigating flood risks and explains the actions taken to improve drainage.

A developer has sought to calm concerns after social media posts showed significant flooding backing up onto an unsold new-build Nottinghamshire estate. The new development of around 40 homes at Hempsill Croft, Nuthall, just off Low Wood Road, has started to take offers for the new builds.

However, residents on a nearby estate have expressed concerns about the new builds after seeing a significant amount of floodwater next to the freshly constructed properties. The flood footpath, which borders the new development, has been closed by the developer, Peveril Homes, and the developer has since reportedly addressed flood risk concerns along the site boundary. The public footpath, which runs over Low Wood Road and is adjacent to the development, continues on the other side into fields that were also flooded. A social media post details how one concerned resident raised their concerns with Peveril Homes after learning they had rerouted a stream that ran alongside the footpath, which they allegedly claim caused the flooding. The developer has now responded to claims that the new houses were at risk of flooding, and reassured prospective buyers and current residents that the issue was due to broken pipework and will be rectified promptly. A Peveril Homes Spokesperson said it take the risk of flooding 'extremely seriously' and has implemented 'appropriate mitigation measures' at Hempshill Croft. They continued: 'The footpath to the north of the site was temporarily closed to allow for the construction of a retaining wall along the site boundary. 'Prior to these works, the area was known to experience occasional flooding as a result of overflow from surrounding farmland. 'As part of the development works, Peveril Homes cleared the existing ditch designed to protect the footpath and replaced an ageing headwall. Once the footpath was reopened, this issue was resolved.' Peveril said that following recent storms, a blockage was identified 'within historic pipework serving the area' and that plans were now in place to 'excavate and replace the impacted section'. The spokesperson said works will commence as soon as weather conditions allow the excess water to be safely pumped away, after which the issue is expected to be fully alleviated. They added: 'The drainage systems serving the Hempshill Croft development have been designed and installed in line with approved planning and engineering standards, and the homes themselves have not been affected by flooding. 'Peveril Homes continues to monitor the situation closely and will take all necessary steps to ensure the long-term effectiveness of the drainage infrastructure.”
