Scientists believe the species hunted the oceans 66 million years ago with 'teeth like knives'.

Scientists have shared a reconstructed image of what the lizard might have looked like 66 million years agoScientists say they have discovered fossils belonging to a "nightmarish" sea lizard species that hunted the oceans 66 million years ago.Researchers said the species would have lived alongside dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops.

Researchers believe the lizard was just one out of a range of top predators that inhabited the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Morocco. Both the mosasaurs and dinosaurs became extinct towards the end of the Late Cretaceous period, around 66 million years ago. "There seems to have been a huge change in the ecosystem structure in the past 66 million years," Dr Longrich said.
