A Highland Perthshire ward councillor highlighted the issue at a recent committee meeting

The issue was raised during a meeting of Perth and Kinross Council's Housing and Social Wellbeing Committee on Wednesday, October 2.

Bailie Mike Williamson brought the matter up following a Police Scotland presentation on Preventions, Interventions and Partnerships. Perth and Kinross Council’s Safer Communities Team regularly carries out patrols of the Perthshire countryside and works alongside partners such as loch wardens, the police and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to report any issues and concerns.

At Wednesday's meeting Highland Perthshire councillor Mike Williamson said: "I understand wild campers have been leaving behind recreational drugs."Safer Communities team leader Roddy Ross said: "There have been occasional reports of evidence of recreational drugs being left behind. It's the kind of sites you would expect so we generally have a pretty clear idea of which vehicles and encampments are concerned with that.

"That intelligence is obviously passed on to the police. Anything that's lying about is cleared up. It tends to be cannabis, maybe there's been a little bit of cocaine but we're not talking about needles and things as I recall this year."
