‘One of the best gold mines in Canada’
The 2022 acquisition of Great Bear Resources for the Great Bear gold deposit in the Red Lake district of Ontario, Canada, is increasingly looking like a great buy for Kinross Gold, chief executive Paul Rollinson told Mining Journal at the 2024 Gold Forum Americas in Colorado Springs in Denver , US.A preliminary economic assessment earlier this month excited the market and lifted the company's share price by 5% with initial economics of an internal rate of return of 24.
ChileKinross plans to expand in Chile's Maricunga district, where it operates the La Coipa mine. La Coipa has water rights, which it can leverage into other assets, such as its nearby Lobo Marte deposit."We see ourselves mining La Coipa till the end of the decade. It is a very high margin and a great cash flow contributor. We need to keep permitting laybacks to extend the mine life to the end of the decade. Then we have a linear transition from La Coipa to Lobo.
