Gail Roberts, 64, has been locked in a dispute over the sale of her home for years, while her neighbours all moved on.
A disabled woman has spoken of her pride at being that last living resident on an abandoned street. Gail Roberts, 64, has been locked in a dispute with National Highways over the sale of her home on the Queensway in Derby for a number of years.
She said: "I feel battered, bruised and drained by the whole experience. But I'm quite proud to be the last one standing. I love this house. I'll never have another like it." Most homeowners took the offer - market value plus 10 per cent compensation - happily but Mrs Roberts was reluctant in her initial acceptance. However, when an environmental campaign group took the government agency to court over carbon emissions and won, the order was quashed.
Gail's MS means that she needs a home that suits her needs. Her current property is spacious and adaptable, but many others in the area are not, so her stalemate with National Highways continues and she is staying put for the meantime.
