A local discovers the beauty and tranquility of Speke Hall, a historic Tudor Estate near Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
I've lived less than 15 minutes away from Speke Hall for years now, but I'm ashamed to say I'd never visited the stunning National Trust site until recently. This green oasis has a Tudor house at its heart, and I decided I would finally take the chance to visit when I booked a free National Trust pass through an online promotion. The historic site usually has a packed events calendar, with spooky Halloween walks and autumnal dinners that make the most of the house's legendary ghost stories.
And as the festive season approaches, Speke Hall also hosts a number of festive days out, from magical retellings of the 12 days of Christmas inside the Tudor house, to a family walk in the grounds to listen to Christmas songs. On the day of my visit, we chose to just take in the grounds and the historic hall, rather than booking on to any special events. Considering the property's close location to Liverpool John Lennon Airport , it's incredible how calm and serene the entire place feels from the second you leave the car park and head through the visitor's centre. I visited Speke Hall with my husband and baby son on a beautiful crisp morning and I was absolutely blown away by the stunning views and walking routes. I couldn't believe that such a local treasure had been around the corner from my house and I'd never been in before. When you walk through the main entrance, you pass by the quaint little bookshop, the cosy café and the conveniently located public toilets. There's also a playground for bigger kids, which I'm sure my son will enjoy on our return visits over the coming years. Once you pass these amenities at the entrance, you've got the choice of a number of walking routes around the property, from easy, flat paths that were perfect for the pram, to slightly boggier routes if it's been raining recentl
