The landlord has not responded to the council over the College Heights proposal
A proposal for the creation of a new public path in South Belfast has produced “passionate advocating and lobbying from both sides,” a councillor has said.
A council report for the People and Communities Committee states: “In 2006 a path through Annadale Grammar School was brought to the council’s attention as a potential public right of way. In 2008 investigations indicated this was not the case. The site was developed into a residential area with a path retained for residents in the development only. It is locked by a gate and a private management company maintains the landscaped areas of the development including the pathway.
“The council then the potential of a permissive path agreement on a pilot basis, whereby the path could be opened and closed during set times of the day for a set period of time. There was no response from the landowner.” During the committee meeting, SDLP Councillor Séamas de Faoite, who lives in the area, said: “There is a varied view from residents both in Ailesbury Road and in Wellington Square about this particular access path, and whether it should be opened.
