Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is now at the Emma Knox Library in Geneva County.
Last year, Coffee County was the first in the Wiregrass to receive an Imagination Library . Now it has expanded, heading further south into Geneva County. GENEVA , Ala. - “Parents are a child’s first teacher,” said Linda Marley, a member of the board of directors at Emma Knox Kenan Library in Geneva .“It is scary to think, ‘How do you teach a child to read?’” said Marley.The program allows children up to five years old to have a book delivered to their home for free.
After a nearly thirty-year career in education, Linda Marley knows that reading before kindergarten can make all the difference in a child’s performance in school. “Books give children an advantage,” said Marley. “The children that are brought up with books in their home, they are more ready for school. They are better writers; they have an increased vocabulary and comprehension skills.”“It would be wonderful if at the end of those five years, a child was very excited about getting a library card, and then became a patron of that library,” said Marley. “Bringing that younger generation into the library.
