Thousands of fishermen and local residents, especially in coastal areas, lost their job and source of income as the government warned if hazard effects of going into the sea, as well as the health effects on the sea products in areas affected by the oil spill.
“This is the least we can do for the affected communities of the oil-spill that affected many coastal communities in Oriental Mindoro,” said Doria. The Department of Tourism earlier said the oil spill has already made adverse effects on tourism sites in Mindoro Island and nearby provinces. “One of my marching orders is to enhance PNP's security measures to prevent crimes and ensure that police intervention is in place at all times. Police assistance desks will be deployed to reinforce our security response, assistance and interventions,” PBGEN DORIA explained.
