DAVID MUNDEE The Dothan High School girls flag football team opened the season with a pair of wins on Tuesday, earning shutout victories over Northside Methodist Academy and Carroll at Rip Hewes Stadium.In the win over NMA, Emma Jayne Hanie threw three touchdowns passes for the Wolves. Ava Bell caught two of the touchdown passes and Josie Varner caught the other scoring pass.
Against Carroll, Hanie completed 7-of-8 passes, including a touchdown pass. Yu had an overall solid game, rushing, throwing and catching a touchdown each. Lanie Calhoun rushed for a TD and Irma Montiel returned an interception for the other Wolves’ scores.Northside Methodist splits: Northside Methodist defeated Carroll 19-7 and lost to Dothan 18-0 during a tri-match Tuesday at Rip Hewes Stadium.
Defensively, Bull had two interceptions and Alyssa Turner and Emmie Haywood had one interception each.
