The Dover Area School District is expected to discuss a proposed policy on name, sex and gender identity during a board meeting Tuesday night.. The discussion follows a lawsuit filed in April by parent Michelle Landerer, who claimed District staff had been using a male name and pronouns for her child without informing her, allegedly violating her parental and religious rights and freedoms.
The policy also seems to address specific claims made in the initial lawsuit that the district was honoring students' requests to "socially transition" to a gender identity incongruent with the one assigned at birth without parental input.
