Motorists are being warning about little-known driving regulations during the festive season that could land them in hot water, even when they're not actively driving.
There are additional scenarios where individuals could face penalties without actually operating a vehicle. This might involve being seated in a car or having the keys in the ignition, especially if located outside a drinking establishment. However, severe punishments can also be enforced. To steer clear of any risk during the Yuletide merrymaking, experts recommend leaving your car keys at home to eliminate the temptation of driving after consuming alcohol.
"If the police believe you had the intention to drive - whether that's by being close to the car, sitting inside it, or even having the keys in the ignition - you could face serious consequences. These include a fine of up to £2,500, three months in prison, or a driving ban."
