It's only too right that we all get into the spirit of things this Christmas but spare a thought for your wallet as you drive around this holiday season - there are surprising fines to be had every mile of the way
It may only be November, but Mariah Carey has already crept into the Global Top 50 Charts, with her hit song All I Want for Christmas Is You being streamed worldwide. But did you know playing this song whilst driving could land you with a fine? And a hefty one at that.
If your tree’s distribution, weight, position, or how it is secured on the car is unsuitable, your vehicle can also be classified as dangerous under the Road Traffic Act 1988. While it is not illegal to drive with snow on your roof, it could put others or yourself at risk. If loose snow falls, it could obstruct your vision or fall onto the car behind and impact its ability to see. You could then be charged with 'driving without due consideration' or 'using a motor vehicle in a dangerous condition' - which again can land you in a lot of trouble. It is always advised to fully wipe snow and ice from your roof and every window.
One of the main risks is if any decorations obstruct your view, never put accessories on dashboards or windows. Blocking your view out of the windscreen can lead to three points and up to £1,000 in fines.
