Parent and child parking spaces are typically located closer to the shop

Motorists are being advised to think carefully before parking in certain types of spaces that are widely available at supermarket car parks nationwide. Getting a space in crowded car parks can be frustrating, with drivers vying for the first available slot.

They said: "Parent and child parking bays are reserved specifically for parents or guardians travelling with one or more children under 12 years old in the vehicle. However, these spaces are only available to parents who need to take a child with them into the supermarket or shopping centre. These dedicated parking spots usually boast wider bays for added convenience and are positioned closer to shop entrances to minimise the need for young passengers to navigate through busy areas. But predominantly, these parking bays are off-limits unless the driver's party includes a child under the age of 12 who will be accompanying them inside the store.
