The idea is to help drivers save money on fuel
A motoring expert has recommended a unique tip for drivers to enhance their vehicle's fuel efficiency and driving technique. With the October Budget on the horizon, there's speculation that the long-standing freeze on fuel duty might come to an end, potentially increasing petrol and diesel prices by up to 10p per litre.
They said: "Every time you apply the brakes, the energy that you've paid for in fuel is lost in heat generated by the brake pads and discs." The spokesperson added: "Don't rev the engine unnecessarily when accelerating, just move gently through the gears, keeping the engine speed to a reasonable level, but without labouring it by being in too high a gear," reports the Express.
In manual cars equipped with a tachometer , drivers are advised to avoid revving the engine at speeds exceeding 2,500rpm or below 1,000rpm. Both extremes can negatively affect fuel economy.
