A driving instructor on TikTok recently explained a common road sign confusion, highlighting the importance of understanding road signs for safe driving.
While many of us like to think we're expert drivers, it's never a bad thing to pick up new information. In fact, one driving instructor thinks it's good to refresh your knowledge every now and then. Annie Winterburn recently took to TikTok to explain there's a common road sign that most drivers don't understand. They may think they know what it means, but it seems to confuse a lot of people. It's baffling really, as she admitted herself it's 'really easy' to get to grips with.
In an explainer video, she said: 'You know that it's warning you - it's warning you about a steep hill, but is it a steep hill up or is it a steep hill down? Well, read the number 20 and look at the zero.' Holding up a picture of the sign, she continued: 'Is that zero higher up than the two or is it lower down than the two? You can see that the zero is higher up, so that number 20 is going upwards, so it's warning you about a steep, uphill slope. Practice your road signs because it's the biggest theory test topic. There are more questions about road signs than any other topic.' A steep uphill slope road sign warns people that there's a steep incline ahead on a road. You'll often find them near sharp turns or curves, following a tricky section of a winding road or in mountainous areas. Since Annie shared the video, it's been viewed hundreds of times, and people were quick to comment too. Many thought the road sign was explained in a simple way. One wrote: 'Thank you. This is VERY helpful, as I kept getting confused with this one.' Another said: 'Really well explained.' When it comes to driving, it's crucial you know the meaning of important road signs. This is because they help to keep everyone safe, whether you're a driver or a pedestrian. As well as telling you what you're allowed to do, they also show you what you must not do, as well as providing handy information about the local area
