He also narrowly missed a pedestrian who was crossing the city road

This heavily-convicted drug-driver smashed his car into a lorry and a tree on a Nottingham ring road while three times the limit for cannabis. Nottingham Crown Court heard how Tommy Briercliife was uninsured, unlicensed and narrowly missed hitting a pedestrian who was crossing Western Boulevard as he reached 80mph during a police chase.

The prosecutor said Briercliffe pulled into the forecourt of the Esso garage in Nuthall Road, Aspley, and the police illuminated the blue lights on the car. Miss Warner said: “The car sped off and failed to stop going down the A610 and onto Western Boulevard. “It had caused and received significant damage and the airbags had been deployed. The aftermath was that it had hit an HGV and a tree which caused significant damage to the front of the defendant’s car. The police officer saw him climb from the driver’s seat and into the back where he laid down and closed his eyes.
