A suspected drunk driver crashed into a family home in Calverton, Nottinghamshire, causing significant structural damage and forcing the family of four to evacuate. The incident occurred on Hollinwood Lane late Saturday night.
A family of four had to be evacuated from their Calverton property after a suspected drunk driver smashed into their home and caused structural damage. A 25-year-old has been arrested after a car crash ed into a parked vehicle on Hollinwood Lane late on Saturday (December 28). Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue officers evacuated the family of four, with the mother of the family and her baby being forced to climb over one of the damaged vehicles.
The crash affected part of the building owned by the Calverton Miners' Welfare club, which has had to close for safety reasons. Pictures from the scene show a car smashed into a building at the back of the miners' welfare, containing a flat which is rented out by the club. Dean Wilson, the chair of trustees at Calverton Miners' Welfare, said: 'There is significant structural damage to that building. 'The fire and rescue service had to evacuate the family. The mother and the baby had to climb over the car to get out because the car had blocked the gate access. The family are currently staying with one of their parents who live nearby, but it's an arrangement we're going to have sort out in terms of finding them alternative accommodation.' No serious injuries were reported following the incident, which the emergency services were called to at 10.49pm on Saturday. Nottinghamshire Police has confirmed that a car left the road and ended up on a driveway, causing damage to a ground floor flat and lamppost. A 25-year-old man was arrested shortly before 1.30am on Sunday (December 29) on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and was taken to hospital for assessment. Dean Wilson added: 'One of the trustees lives on Collyer Road and she heard a car going past and then heard a loud bang shortly afterwards.
