Footage captured by a body-worn camera has revealed the horrifying moment a drunk thug attacked a police officer during a domestic disturbance. The incident unfolded when two officers responded to a call about a heated argument at a residence. Upon arrival, they discovered David Poultney had been verbally abusive towards a woman inside the house, in the presence of her three young children. He had also allegedly smashed her television.
As one of the officers attempted to handcuff Poultney, the situation escalated rapidly. The footage shows Poultney becoming increasingly volatile and eventually overpowering the officer, pinning him to the ground outside the house. Poultney then seized the officer in a headlock, tightening his grip around the officer's neck and threatening to 'choke him out'. The officer's colleague intervened, managing to break Poultney's hold and prevent further harm. David Poultney, a 31-year-old from Winsford, was subsequently arrested and charged with criminal damage, intentional strangulation, and possession of cannabis. At Chester Crown Court, Poultney pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment. Speaking about the incident, an officer from Northwich Local Policing Unit expressed his relief that justice had been served. He emphasized that the police force would never tolerate any form of violence or aggression against its officers, who regularly put themselves at risk to protect the public. He stressed that officers deserve to carry out their duties without fear of assault
