The Dacia Duster's third generation arrives with a refreshed design, advanced technology, and a new hybrid powertrain option. This article explores the Duster's strengths in terms of ride comfort, fuel efficiency, and eco-friendly materials.
The Duster has been a popular choice for affordable driving, but what does this new third-generation model offer? Jack Evans investigates. A comfortable ride makes the Duster enjoyable to drive. The third-generation Duster boasts bold new styling, more interior technology, and hybrid assistance to lower running costs. But does it maintain the strengths of its predecessors? We've been putting it to the test.
Underneath the skin, the Duster has moved from the older B platform to a new CMF-B setup. This not only brings the potential for sharper handling but also allows for the addition of hybrid assistance. Since many Dusters primarily travel on roads, this full hybrid version could be appealing to many drivers. With 139bhp and 148Nm of torque, it's not exceptionally powerful, but its 9.9-second 0-60mph time is suitable for the segment. However, its fuel efficiency of over 55mpg for this size of car is excellent, while CO2 emissions of 114g/km are also low. The rearward visibility is limited due to the narrow rear screen, but elsewhere, visibility is good, and you still get a slightly elevated view of the road ahead, which many drivers will find reassuring. Above all, the Duster's ride stands out, being supple enough to handle the worst potholes and road imperfections. As a result, it feels like it's gliding along effortlessly. Many elements of the Duster have a more eco-friendly approach thanks to a new material called 'Starkle'. Made from 20 percent recycled materials, it has a lower environmental impact than plastic alone, which is why it's used on areas such as the wheel arches, front bumper, and underbody shields. Space is generally good – although the rear seats are a little upright – and the boot space is also respectable
