I can’t believe he said that.” Poirier actually planned to use his cardio as a weapon in the fight and was surprised when he was able to finish Saint-Denis so quickly.I thought the third, or fourth round is when I would really start to pull away and break him down - but I got him out of there in the second.
It’s hard for Poirier to be too upset right now, as he’s on the verge of getting a title shot just one fighter after being knocked out by Justin Gaethje last July. Islam Makhachev is looking to defend his lightweight belt in June, and Gaethje probably won’t be fit to fight then as he’s booked to face Max Holloway athasn’t revealed who Makhachev will face yet, but Poirier certainly seems to be the front-runner after his impressive performance last weekend.
