Renewals are needed more often
Elderly motorists must renew their licence every three years, the DVLA has said. Those who are over the age of 70 - or if you turn 70 within the next 90 days - must meet a couple of different criteria in order to complete this.
The DVLA has outlined these on its website, and recently posted a reminder to Twitter, stating it can be done for free on their website. The tweet read: "After you turn 70, you need to renew your licence every 3 years. It’s easy, quick and secure to do it online", followed by a link to the online service, reports Daily Record.
Before you can start the process of renewing your licence online, the DVLA states you must be aged 70 or over, or will have your 70th birthday in the next 90 days. It also says that you can renew online if: After you hit the age of 70, your licence has to be renewed every three years. You can also change the picture on your licence each time you do this. You can still drive while your licence is being renewed if all of these conditions are met:
After you've renewed online, your new licence should be with you within a week according to the DVLA.
