Carers in the UK are being urged to ask the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for the benefit to be raised, with charities saying a review is 'overdue'
People receiving Carer's Allowance have been alerted to an ongoing issue, leaving 1.2 million unpaid carers in poverty. A prominent charity has called for an increase in Carer's Allowance, stating that a review is "overdue".
Charities are pressing the Labour Party government to increase the DWP's current offering of £81 per week, which amounts to £4,212 annually, suggesting that any rise should be above this figure. Carers UK highlights that around 400,000 unpaid carers are experiencing severe poverty, defined as living at 50% below the poverty line.
