September 16-22 is the qualifying week for this year’s Winter Fuel Payment.
The Department for Work and Pensions has confirmed that new regulations on eligibility for Winter Fuel Payments will come into force on Monday, September 16 - the first day of the qualification period for this year’s payments. Eligible pensioners in receipt of a means-tested benefit during any day of the qualifying week of September 16-22, will receive a payment of between £100 and £300 to help with higher winter heating bills.
Last month, the Scottish Government announced it would be delaying the launch of the new Pension Age Winter Heating Payment until next year following the eligibility change - the devolved benefit was due to replace Winter Fuel Payments in Scotland this winter. DWP guidance on GOV.UK states that letters will be sent to eligible pensioner households in October or November telling them how much Winter Fuel Payment they will receive.
