The DWP is gaining new powers that allow it to check people's bank accounts for fraud
A trial by the Department for Work and Pensions to monitor bank accounts has revealed that tens of thousands of benefit claimants are violating regulations.
An additional 3,000 cases are said to have had indications of "abroad fraud", this meaning where the account holder was either taking holidays that exceed the duration allowed under DWP travel rules, or living abroad and claiming UK benefits.
