Officials at the charity Scope have pointed out what they believe to be a disparity
Campaigners have highlighted an income gap of around £1,000 which people with disabilities and chronic health issues face compared to claimants who receive means-tested benefits. in disabled people who receive just one £150 cost of living payment and are excluded from disability benefits from the Warm Home Discount.
Scope's analysis has found that, on average, disabled households need an additional £975 a month to have the same standard of living as non-disabled households and that if this figure is updated to account for inflation, these extra costs rise to £1,122 per month. On average, the extra cost of disability is equivalent to 63 percent of household income after housing costs.
And while Ofgem has announced a reduction in the energy price cap, analysis by National Energy Action shows households will face even higher costs - 13 percent more on average – than they experienced over the winter months last year. James Taylor, executive director of strategy at disability equality charity Scope, said: "These figures lay bare the fact disabled people are being hit hardest in this crisis.
