Campaigners are pushing for compensation for the WASPI women
The Department for Work and Pensions has some crucial lessons to learn from the WASPI fiasco, according to a finance expert. Victoria Harris, co-founder of women's financial education group The Curve Platform, highlighted some "vital lessons" from the debacle, particularly around financial education and Government communication.
The Ombudsman has also suggested compensation payments ranging from £1,000 to £2,950, with the WASPI women continuing to fight for payouts. Outlining the key takeaways from the controversy, Ms Harris stated: "First and foremost, the Government must prioritise clear, timely communication about major policy changes.
The expert emphasised: "For individuals, this saga underscores the importance of financial literacy. We need to start teaching personal finance in schools and make it a lifelong learning process. The debacle has implications beyond pensions, Ms Harris believes. She stated: "It's about trust in our institutions, fairness in our society, and the value we place on our older citizens. As we move forward, we must ensure that such a situation never happens again.
