Man United nearly made a move for Sesko last summer after John Murtough met with the forward's agent

RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško admits he was not involved in transfer talks with Manchester United but insists a move to Germany was better for his development. Slovenia striker Šeško joined RB Leipzig for around £20million in August, having burst onto the scene at their sister club, RB Salzburg.

As a 19-year-old at the time, he netted 16 goals in 30 Austrian Bundesliga appearances and featured seven times in the Champions League. United were in the market for a world-class striker this summer, with Erik ten Hag desperate to add goals to his side after seeing them score just 58 in the Premier League last season. Harry Kane was the Dutchman's prime target, but football director John Murtough had spoken with Šeško the previous summer and the youngster was again linked with a move to Old Trafford.ALSO READ: Ten Hag has perfect opportunity to test drive new Mount “The thing is, I wasn’t really involved in these kinds of conversations,” the Slovenian told Transfermarkt when quizzed on United’s interest. "But I think it was better to come here. "It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football. I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again. After concentrating on other areas of the pitch in Ten Hag's first transfer window, United ended up welcoming Rasmus Hojlund to Old Trafford this summer after agreeing a £72million deal with Atalanta. The Denmark international made his debut in the defeat to Arsenal and scored his first goal for the club in last week's 4-3 Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich. Šeško, meanwhile, has enjoyed an excellent start to life in Leipzig with three goals in six appearances across all competitions.
