EasyJet passengers returning from Egypt were stranded at a closed Zagreb Airport for over ten hours after an emergency landing due to a sick crew member. Louise Mapsie, a passenger on the flight, described the ordeal as chaotic and distressing, with passengers left without support or accommodation.
A holidaymaker says they were left stranded for hours at an airport in Croatia after their easyJet flight had to make an emergency landing. Louise Mapsie was on her way home to Manchester after a five day stay at a resort in Egypt when the pilot suddenly called for medical assistance. A staff member had fallen ill and required urgent medical assistance. The flight was diverted to Zagreb Airport where a paramedic was on hand to take the cabin crew member to hospital for treatment.
According to Louise, passengers were told that the flight could no longer continue due to crew duty and passengers were told that they would be provided with temporary accommodation while a replacement flight was arranged. However, after disembarking with their luggage, Louise says that passengers were told that no accommodation could be found and they would have to wait in Zagreb Airport, which was closed at the time of their arrival. EasyJet has apologised for the 'difficulty' caused by the incident. 'As soon as we got off the plane that was it,' she told the MEN. 'The crew stayed on the plane, we got into the airport to realise that it was closed. 'There was not a single member of staff in there. There were only two security guards who seemed like they were called to help us because of the emergency landing. 'We were just left in there with nobody, we were getting updates on the easyJet app. Which not everybody had, there were elderly people who didn't have it so they had no clue what was going on. 'An hour later we got a text from easyJet saying they aren't going to give us accommodation and they would let us know when the next available flight is.' According to Louise, the rest of the cabin crew had remained on the plane and were eventually transported to a five star hotel in the city, while she says passengers remained at the airport for over ten hours in freezing conditions with little to no suppor
