La última persona que vio a Hope con vida fue su hijo. Cuando Tucker le preguntó qué le pasó, dijo que su nieto le dijo que ella había fallecido. "Tashawn me contó, que encontraron una especie de ladera y un árbol, y se acostaron a descansar", dijo Tucker."Luego dice que ella simplemente dejó de respirar".
"Su madre nunca dejaría a Tashawn", dijo seguro Tucker."Era tan sobreprotectora con Tashawn que era toda su vida".Dos días después, la policía dijo que encontraron a Tashawn afuera de una estación de servicio a unas cinco millas del auto y en muy mal estado. Lo llevaron a un hospital cercano para que se recuperara. Tucker dijo que estaba gravemente deshidratado y le diagnosticaron una infección renal aguda.
