Residents at Nant Morlais in Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, say they hope to return to their homes permanently in time for Christmas after the 50ft wide sinkhole opened on their street earlier this month.

Elderly residents who were forced to evacuate after a giant 50ft sinkhole swallowed their street 'could be allowed home this week'.

The sinkhole began as the size of a 'pillow' but quickly escalated and is now estimated to be up to 50ft deep and 16ft wide. The area around the sinkhole has been cordoned off and the street remained closed, while it remains unclear for how long the evacuation of the road and its homes will last 'The front row they're on a different services, so they're hoping to go back this week.
