Emmerdale's Katie Sugden was played by Sammy Winward
Former Emmerdale star Sammy Winward is set to make her big return to TV after eight years. The star is best known for playing Katie Sugden on ITV hit soap Emmerdale. She left the show in 2015 after 14 years after joining the Yorkshire-based soap opera.
The chilling drama first appeared on screens in September and follows the horrific crimes of the Yorkshire Ripper, whose real name was Peter Sutcliffe.The show focuses on Sutcliffe's victims, as well as the police officers involved in the investigation, and follows the five-year-long manhunt to find the notorious killer who carried out his crimes around Manchester, West Yorkshire, and Sheffield. Sammy, 38, will take on the gruelling role of Sonia, Peter's wife.
Sammy's appearance will be her first major acting role since 2015 when she took on the role of Lucy Murdoch in ITV's crime thriller, Prey, for series two. Just two years later, she appeared as Siobhan Murphy in two episodes of ITV's Fearless, The Mirror reports.
