Leeds United know a win against Derby County on Sunday will see them enter 2025 top of the Championship table after their 2-0 Boxing Day win at Stoke City.
Piroe confidence Piroe had been scoreless in his past five games and another blank night would have raised a few more eyebrows, despite him being top scorer. Up until his goal, the attacker was involved in much of the forward play but had barely managed to scrape a shot on goal. Bogle and James partnership Jayden Bogle put in a terrific display and was seen putting James through past the backline on multiple occasions - not that Stoke didn’t read it, just they did not know how to stop it. The pair linked up seamlessly time and again.
Ampadu in the pocket Ethan Ampadu, playing as a defensive midfielder again, was initially seen dropping in between the two centre-backs when they split wide early in the game. This became infrequent beyond the first 15 minutes as Leeds took control and had no need for the extra defender. Attacking prowess There were times when Stoke were seen in a back five as Leeds tried to find an opening before the first goal. The positive Leeds can take is that they managed to breach that back line even when the Potters used this tack.
