BRITAIN joined the European Economic Community (EEC) - the precursor to the EU - in the Seventies as it hoped to swap its slow economic performance for the sustained and rapid growth enjoyed by most of its members, West Germany in particular - but the UK could not have got its timing more wrong, ex-Conservative MEP Daniel Hannan told Express.co.uk.
However, the Conservative politician noted:"We couldn't have got our timing more spectacularly wrong.
