Everton are not likely to activate the one-year extension clause in Idrissa Gana Gueye’s contract,The 34-year-old’s deal at Goodison Park is set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 campaign – but the Merseysiders have an option to extend his stay an extra 12 months.

But with their ongoing financial woes, it is believed the Toffees could now move to get the Senegal international’s big wage off the books – even if they remain in the Premier League., Gueye earns £80,000-a-week at Goodison Park – meaning it would cost almost £4.2million to keep him at the club another 12 months.
