British Gas has listed five items that every house in the UK should stockpile in case of an emergency power cut.
The energy provider listed the items ahead of potential thunderstorms across the country on Thursday. The recent heatwave, which has seen much of England, Scotland and Wales bask in hot sunny weather, is predicted to end abruptly with stormy conditions, the Express reports. Some thunder and lightning is expected, with households advised to prepare for possible power outages. In the event of power cuts, British Gas has provided a list of items that households should consider stockpiling in preparation.These include torches, spare batteries and a backup charger for mobile phones. The firm added: “You might even consider a battery-powered radio, to keep on top of local updates if you can’t use your mobile.
Of course, it's wise to keep a cupboard filled with essential foods that can be prepared without electricity. If you have a gas hob, it's simpler as you can still whip up soups, tinned meats and tinned potatoes, or even make porridge. However, items such as tinned rice pudding, breakfast cereals, breakfast bars, nuts and seeds, and chocolate, can all be stored and safely consumed during a power cut without any preparation needed if you don't have access to electricity or gas.
