Liverpool captain Van Dijk says the entire squad are right behind Diaz and are praying his father is returned safely after his kidnapping in Colombia
Virgil van Dijk says the entire squad are praying for the safe release of Luis Diaz's father as the captain reiterated the support Liverpool are on hand to provide their colleague and his family.
After the game, Diaz posted a message to his social media accounts where he pleaded with the ELN to return his father back to the family and Van Dijk says he and the rest of the squad will continue to rally around the 26-year-old as the harrowing ordeal drags on in South America. "He is also disappointed because he also wanted to win but obviously there are probably a lot of emotions going on in his head. I am glad and it must have been tonight that he should score anyway. You know I am happy for him but hopefully we can get his father back as soon as possible.
He added: "Was it difficult to perform? No. Obviously when happened, before the last game against Nottingham Forest, it was a shock to everyone and we spoke about it but it should give us extra motivation. "We had the opportunities and the chances and I think if you score one of those then it becomes a completely different game. Obviously they only need one half-chance and that is what they did. Like I said, the disappointment is high at the moment and it's good that we didn't lose, of course, because that would have been a lot worse. But I think we could have made it a lot easier for ourselves.
"The same as the wrestling moment before that. He can give it but he didn't. Obviously it's tough for us but like I said, it starts with ourselves and we had the opportunities to win it and we haven't taken them.
