From today (October 31) the money will be handed out to eight million households by November 19
Across the UK, millions of people will be waking up to the next cost of living payment dropping into their banks. It forms part of a series of measures unveiled by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt last year, and is an extension of a £650 payment issued in 2022. The £900 is being paid in three instalments. The first payment, of £301, was made between April and May. Here's everything you need to know about the cost of living payment.
You do not need to apply for the payment. If you are eligible, you should receive it automatically. The payment reference for bank accounts will be the recipient’s national insurance number followed by “DWP COL” or “HMRC COLSD”. Those on the two types of tax credits, which are handled by HMRC, will receive their £300 payment in a narrower timeframe of November 10 to 19. If you receive tax credits from HMRC as well as an eligible DWP benefit, you will only get one cost of living payment and that will usually come from the DWP.
