Bobby Burns swapped the Irish League for the League of Ireland earlier this summer
Galway United’s summer signing Bobby Burns is settling into life in Salthill like a duck to water after moving on from a "tough 24 months" at Glentoran.
But now the 24-year-old says he is loving life on the west coast, where the River Corrib meets the Atlantic Ocean. The midfielder is made of some of the tough stuff himself and has shown he is not afraid to make difficult decisions when it comes to upping sticks and taking a different journey in his career.
Coming to a vibrant city like Galway is buying into a bigger project than just the football club — it is the lifestyle and surroundings that are also a huge draw to any prospective player, and this was also a defining factor in bringing the Co Antrim man way-out-west.“I went to the Galway Races with some of the lads a few weeks back and that was just another example of what this place has to offer.
He was one of the few players to exit that garnered sympathy and disappointment from Glens fans upon hearing of his leaving, after turning in some superb performances in his time in East Belfast, including winning player of the year in 2023.“I had some great times there and I always felt that the fans were so passionate about getting results. Unfortunately, we couldn’t deliver that on the pitch and that disappoints me.
