Former Conservative MP Jack Lopresti has left politics to join the Ukrainian International Legion, providing logistical support and working on diplomatic efforts.
A former Conservative Party Member of Parliament, Jack Lopresti, has traded his political career for a new mission: joining the Ukrainian International Legion to combat Russia's ongoing invasion. Having lost his seat in the last general election, Lopresti is now based in Kyiv, where he will provide essential logistical support to Ukraine's beleaguered front-line troops.
Lopresti revealed that he applied to the legion in November and took time to find the unit that best utilized his experience and skills. While he will not be engaged in direct combat, his military role encompasses vital areas such as foreign relations and diplomacy, weapons procurement, and collaboration with veterans' charities operating within Ukraine. This transition to military service is not entirely unfamiliar territory for Lopresti, who previously served as a corporal in the UK Army Reserve before entering the world of Westminster politics. Notably, Lopresti participated in a cross-party UK Parliamentary delegation that recently traveled across Ukraine. Their journey included visits to Kyiv's main children's hospital, veterans' rehabilitation centers, and meetings with military commanders in Kharkiv. Lopresti expressed deep honor and privilege in serving the Ukrainian military and assisting the courageous Ukrainian people. He underscored the global significance of Ukraine's fight, stating that they are not only defending their freedom and sovereignty but also safeguarding the interests of Europe and the free world against the rising tide of authoritarianism represented by China, Iran, and North Korea. Lopresti's commitment to Ukraine extends beyond his military role, as he returned to the country in November, after losing his parliamentary seat in July, to volunteer with a charity
