The charges against Derek McMahon relate to when he was employed as a registered nurse by Cumbrae Lodge Care Home, in Irvine.
A nurse at an Ayrshire care home has been struck off after he assaulted a patient with advanced dementia.
McMahon became involved and, after an altercation with the patient, he assisted him to back to the unit.The next day, during a disciplinary interview, McMahon admitted he was “heavy handed” with the patient and accepted that he used “excessive force.”McMahon was later convicted of assault after pleading guilty to “repeatedly pushing” the patient against a wall, causing their head to strike the wall, “seizing him by the arm and twisting” it and “forcibly dragging him” by the body, to his injury.
However, the NMC deemed that McMahon had brought the profession “into disrepute” as they found the charges again him to be "proved."
