According to horticulture enthusiast Mel, who pens Little Terraced House, apple cider vinegar offers a straightforward, budget-friendly method to convert pink blossoms into eye-catching blue varieties.
Alkaline conditions yield pink petals, acidic environments create blue flowers, whilst neutral ground produces mauve or purple shades."It will also be fairly obvious from the colour of your hydrangea!" For those pursuing the coveted blue tone, making the soil more acidic is essential, reports the Express.
The transformation won't occur immediately, yet the flowers will progressively develop a deeper blue appearance. After achieving the preferred colour, the vinegar treatment may be decreased or discontinued entirely. For hydrangeas grown in containers, using ericaceous compost from the beginning can help them turn blue more easily. Mel also mentioned that she enjoys mixing different varieties together, such as a white hydrangea in a pot next to a large pink-and-blue specimen growing in the soil.
