After surviving a great white shark attack that tore off most of his thigh, a documentary showing surfer Brett Connellan's inspiring journey back into the ocean and a return to elite fitness is captivating.

"If I did this [documentary] at the start of the recovery it wouldn't have the weight of what I've learnt along the way."Today, the documentary Attacking Life will be launched on Stan, charting Mr Connellan's long road to recovery and the profound and surprisingly positive side effects of that shark attack. On the evening of the attack, Mr Connellan's life was first saved by his friend Joel Trist, who brought him to shore on his surfboard.

Not only did he attack the physical and mental aspects of his rehabilitation, he also set some ambitious goals for the future — including paddling 54 kilometres between the Hawaiian islands of Molokai and Oahu.
