FAA postpones public meetings about SpaceX's proposal for more Starship launches from South Texas
The Federal Aviation Administration on Monday postponed public meetings about SpaceX’s proposal to launch and land its Starship spacecraft from South Texas as many as 25 times a year. The agency declined to say why it canceled the meetings that had been scheduled for Tuesday on South Padre Island and Thursday in Port Isabel , as well as a virtual meeting slated for Aug. 20. In a statement, the FAA apologized for the inconvenience and said it would reschedule.
With SpaceX’s revised Starship launch plans under FAA review, next flight could be delayed “Community members have raised concerns about the exclusion of the community from the FAA’s review process of SpaceX’s proposal, such as the lack of Spanish translation and too short notice comment period,” the group said in a statement. The postponement comes as SpaceX is preparing for the fifth launch of its Starship and Super Heavy booster from Starbase in South Texas.
Environmental groups ask feds to halt Starship launches from SpaceX’s South Texas Starbase The company said that data from Super Heavy’s landing burn and splashdown during Starship’s fourth flight in June indicates that the craft’s “sonic boom will be more powerful than those generated by Falcon landings.” Falcon is SpaceX’s smaller, workhorse rocket system already in heavy use.
