The City of Fairhope reports that, due to an urgent repair required for one of Fairhope Public Utilities ' water wells, which experienced a mechanical failure , the City of Fairhope is enacting Phase III of the water conservation ordinance for all customers of Fairhope Public Utilities . This loss has decreased the water capacity by approximately 1 million gallons. Currently, water usage stands at 9.4 million gallons.

Washing of sidewalks, streets, driveways, parking areas, tennis courts, patios or paved areas is prohibited except by the Street Department or Fire Department to alleviate health or fire hazards.Customers found to be in violation of the mandatory phases may be issued a citation and required to appear in court. Fines could be up to $500. The new ordinance allows a warning for the first offense, a $300 fine for a second offense and $500 fines for any additional offenses.

Additionally, Riviera Utilities issued a conserve water notice Monday night, posting on Facebook this morning: Riviera Water Customers: Yesterday, we experienced abnormally low levels in our tanks due to high temps, lack of rain, and heavy irrigation. This prompted a conservation notice to be sent out via RU ALERT last night. Right now, we are still asking that our customers work with us in monitoring usage and avoiding unnecessary consumption during the peak hours of 5 a.m. - 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.

We are grateful for everyone's cooperation, as your immediate effort to take action made a noticeable difference. If you are not receiving RU ALERTS, please enroll by texting "JOIN" to 251-943-4999. We will update this post when we know more. Thank you!
