Farmers in Shropshire and Staffordshire are joining a nationwide campaign against proposed changes to inheritance tax that they say threaten the future of family farms.

Shropshire and Staffordshire farmers have joined a national campaign against the proposed family farm tax . The National Farmers' Union (NFU) is working with other farming unions to raise awareness about the threat the tax poses to food production and rural businesses . Farmers across the country are displaying banners to highlight their concerns.

The banners, designed for visibility in key political areas, aim to keep public attention focused on the issue and pressure politicians to reconsider the tax changes. Oliver and Ed Garratt, Shropshire sheep farmers, are among those participating in the campaign. Ed, who is an NFU Shropshire county adviser, said the tax is causing serious worry and concern among farmers about the future of their farms. He explained that many farms may have to be broken up or sold to pay the tax, which is a major issue for farmers in the county. The NFU is continuing the campaign with more activities planned for January and beyond. NFU President Tom Bradshaw emphasized that the fight to protect family farms is far from over

The Nottinghamshire County Council, which spent over £3,000 on the bright green and orange banners, took down all 17 after installing them in February. The banners promoted a £34.4 million scheme to improve three roundabouts on the A614 and A6097 corridor between Ollerton and East Bridgford. The change of government has cast doubt on Westminster's contribution of around £24 million to the project, leading to uncertainty about its future.
