Banners advertising a Nottinghamshire road project, which may not proceed, have been removed after less than a year due to weather damage despite costing taxpayers thousands of pounds. The Nottinghamshire County Council, which spent over £3,000 on the bright green and orange banners, took down all 17 after installing them in February. The banners promoted a £34.4 million scheme to improve three roundabouts on the A614 and A6097 corridor between Ollerton and East Bridgford. The change of government has cast doubt on Westminster's contribution of around £24 million to the project, leading to uncertainty about its future.
Banners advertising a Nottinghamshire road project which might not happen have been taken down after less than a year due to weather damage despite costing taxpayers thousands. Nottinghamshire County Council, which spent more than £3,000 on the bright green and orange banners, has now taken all 17 of them down after only putting them up in February.
"Now their strategy is to go cap in hand to the new Labour Mayor Claire Ward for the cash. I hope they've kept the banners costing £3,145 plus VAT in storage and have a spare step ladder for the Mayor to put them back up if these improvements ever happen. I will donate some bunting." The major project was originally due to get underway in August, but the council now says teams are assuming a start date of summer 2025 if the government confirms funding or if money can be found elsewhere. Former county council leader Ben Bradley recently said every six months of delay on the project was costing £1 million and stretching the project's viability.
"Those banners have lasted longer and the money's not come because of a general election. I don't think we can blame anybody for that.
