The derelict Compstall Mills building erupted into flames
Fire crews are 'working tirelessly' to tackle a huge derelict mill blaze in Stockport , with roads closed and an 'avoid the area' warning in place overnight.
Dramatic pictures from the scene showed a heavy emergency services presence in attendance, including eight fire engines and technical response units in an effort to bring the flames under control.Nearby roads were cordoned off by police as the fire service urged people to 'avoid the area' and keep their doors and windows closed.
"At present the Police have Compstall Road closed. Hopefully as the incident reduces in size the road will reopen." Ben Levy, GMFRS Area Manager, said: “Our firefighters have done incredibly well to contain the fire and reduce the impact on the local community.
